19th century pregnancy dolls

I've been looking at dolls lately, trying to get some inspiration for my new paintings. Dolls are strange objects. These japanese dolls has most likely primarily been used for education - but also for shows on the human body & wonders of nature - as a type of educational entertainment.

The babies lined up next to the doll are well funny:

Mr. Cool Ice

Mr. Cool Ice is german, and apparently a clean freak. It's the german stereotype.. tidy, clean, organized and on time.. I hope it rubs off on me while I'm living in Germany. Mr. Cool Ice is totally cool and digs Vanilla Ice. He's getting a lot of shit on the internet for his choice of tattoos - a lot of people call them the worst tattoos ever.

The sunglasses on the back of his head are the bestest:

The worst tattoos ever? I disagree. I think his tattoos are cool, positive, over-the-top and funny. I bet this guy has tons of self irony and is totally fun to be with!

Mr. Cool Ice.. when he arrives, so does the party :)

knitted inspiration

I found these gorgeous pictures of knitted outfits in fususuke-pon's photostream on Flickr. The outfits are knitted and photographed by her.

My wrists are starting to hurt from all the knitting I've been doing lately, so the last thing I needed was more inspiration. 'Want' always seem to be more entertaining than 'need'. I don't like to 'need' and I want to knit. I also think that if I ignore the pain, it will go away. At the moment I'm learning how to knit socks from Knitty's online sock knitting tutorial- it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Horror photography by Joshua Hoffine

Blueeyedtawni gave me a link to Joshua Hoffine's online photography portfolio in a comment. Hoffine calls his photography "horror photography", and he has totally got the childhood horror clichés right!

I used to have to run over the floor and jump into the bed from a bit of a distance to avoid being grabbed by these hands:

Only I think my monster had less fur and more slime. Black long slime fingers, like a condensed shadow. I had to make sure there was no gaps between the duvet and the bed in case it would try to grab me. Sometimes I tried to sleep with my head under the duvet to avoid monster exposure, but it was hard to breathe and really uncomfortable.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to have a monster under my bed.

This picture is well funny.. I always wondered how much it would be possible for a person to eat of his or her own body before they'd die:

Sooo do you still have monsters under your bed? I sometimes do. I'm sure I can't be the only one..

paintings by camilla d'errico

This lady is half Italian, half Canadian. It doesn't come as a big surprise that she started out doing comics, her paintings are totally manga comic inspired.

Aww how cute is this lamb thing:

Donnie Darko!! :

This Japanese manga comic style seems to be a trend at the moment, and Camilla D'errico is totally doing it right, yet adding her own flavour to the style. Her paintings are amazing and totally cute.

But where are all the boys?? I LOVE love love all the pretty little girls, but I'm sure I would also love the boys if I saw them. There seems to be a major lack of boys in this type of art - and in any type of art in general that isn't for homosexual men.

I feel inspired. I feel the need to do cute stuff. I'm not sure it's a good turn, as my art has become too sugary as it is and need a bit of serious in it. I feel the need to paint more men - only to even things out a little, and I feel like using colours. Sooo when my fingers are starting to hurt too much from my knitting obsession, I will surely start a new painting. I don't think it will be too long, as they hurt a lot as it is.
